ABOUT MOUNT MERU
Mount Meru is located in Arusha National Park, so the hike on the first day with accompanied by a ranger, you will have a chance to view baboons, buffaloes, giraffes and other wildlife. You will ascent through various Mount Meru vegetation zones, from the grassland into the rainforest, moorland into the alpine desert. Mount Meru is the one standing beneath the Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Meru day hike is one of the Tanzania Mountain hiking involving one day Mount Meru hiking. Day hike on the slopes of Mount Meru is very best adventure to those who are not intending to hike Mount Meru for many days, just little bit experiencing the Mount Meru day hike Tanzania. You will transit through the Arusha National Park getting a chance to view wildlife (game viewing) before taking on the hike to 2500m, also you visit a waterfall later on transit through the park and back to Arusha/Moshi.
MOUNT MERU ITINERARY
DAY 1 | Momella gate to Miriakamba Hut
You will depart your hotel at 08:00 am in Arusha/Moshi driving about an hour or half an hour towards the Momella Gate which is the starting point of the first day Mount Meru hiking. After the registration, you will start your hiking accompanied by an armed ranger helping you to escape wild animals in Arusha National Park and overall way to the Mount Meru. Along the route you will catch spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the Momella Lakes. You will encounter animals such as cape buffaloes, giraffes, warthogs and bushbucks and many others. Your hike will end up at Miriakamba Hut on the first day where you will be spending the night.

DAY 2 | Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut
The second day’s hike bring you through the steep path along the ridge of the saddle. Amazing view of the Mount Meru Crater, the ash cone and little Meru Peak can be seen along the way. While hiking through the forest keep your eyes peeled for wildlife and the amazing wild flowers. Common animals include buffaloes, the black and white Colobus Monkey. Your hike will end up at Saddle Hut where you will be spending the night. After resting at the camp, you will set off on an hour acclimatization hike to Little Meru, then head back down to Saddle Hut.

DAY 3 | Saddle Hut to Summit to Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate
We start early in the morning at least at around 7:30 am to hike steeply to Rhino Point to Cobra Point. We reach the Mount Meru summit (4566 m) on time for sunrise. There is a possibility to see the Mount Kilimanjaro Peak above the clouds. The final part of the hike is along a spectacular narrow ridge line between the sheer inner cliffs and the sloping outer wall of the crater. We take a short rest and brunch at Saddle Hut before continuing the descent to the Miriakamba Hut and lastly to Momella Gate. The returning transfer to Arusha/Moshi will be waiting at Momella Gate and will bring you back to your accommodation.
